The ruins of this theater at Ephesus still exist, and they show that it was a magnificent structure, capable of accommodating some 56,700 persons. It was the largest structure of the kind that ever existed.
The Ephesus theater is where the riot of silversmiths occurred (Acts 19:29). The chief occupation of Demetrius was the making of silver shrines for the goddess Diana (Acts 19:24).
Theaters, as places of amusement, were not part of ancient Jewish society.
