Turkey

Modern Turkey is a secular state with no official religion, but 99 percent of its citizens are Muslim.

During biblical times, this strategic area was dominated by the Hittites, the Assyrians, Chaldeans, Babylonians, Persians, Phrygians, Cimmerians, Lydians, Lycians, Greeks, and Romans.

Important cities and areas included Miletus, Ephesus, Smyrna (modern Izmir), Byzantium (later Constantinople and Istanbul), Bithynia, Cappadocia, Pergamum, and Pontus.
