What is…
Timnath-serah
also known as: Timnath-heres
Meaning: remaining portion
This is the city of Joshua in the hill country of Ephraim, and is the same as Timnath-heres (Joshua 19:50; 24:30).
This place was given to Joshua as his personal inheritance after the Israelite division of the Promised Land of Canaan. It is in hill country on the north of the mountain of Gaash. He rebuilt or fortified it, lived there, and was buried there (Joshua 19:49, 50; 24:30).
He died at age 110 (Judges 2:8, 9). Scripture never mentions heirs taking that land as a family estate. In fact, there is no Biblical record of sons or daughters, nor of Joshua marrying anyone. There is no extra-biblical historical record that independently confirms a family for him.
