apothecary

Hebrew: “raqach.”

This word is used four times in the King James Bible (Exodus 30:25, 35; 37:29; Eccl. 10:1), but never in other translations. It refers to one who makes perfume, a perfumer. This is the way it is translated in other versions.

The holy oils and ointments were prepared by priests properly qualified for this office. The feminine plural form of the Hebrew word is translated as “confectionaries” in 1 Samuel 8:13.
