This is the Greek form of the name of Timothy (Acts 16:1, etc. He is a companion of the Apostle Paul and a fellow early Christian evangelist.

Modern Bible translations use the name Timothy.

Now Paul also arrived at Derbe and at Lystra. And behold, a disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek, —Acts 16:1
