Who is…
Herod Philip I

also known as: Herod II, Herod Boethus or simply Philip

He is a son of Herod the Great by Mariamne II (aka Mariame or Mariamme), the daughter of Simon Boethus of Alexandria, the High Priest.

This is the Herod who interacted with Jesus Christ during his trial in Luke 23:6–12.

Philip married Herodias, a granddaughter of Herod the Great. They had one daughter: Salome (the same Salome who later danced before Herod Antipas and requested the head of John the Baptist, as described in Mark 6:17–29 and Matthew 14:3–11).

For Herod [Antipas] himself had sent and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her. —Mark 6:17

This Philip is different than the Philip the tetrarch, aka Herod Philip II.
