What is…
Bamoth
also known as: Bamoth-Baal
Meaning: heights, high places
Bamoth is a place name in Numbers 21:19–20 that was the 47th Israelite camping station during the Exodus wilderness wanderings.
It is located in Moab near Pisgah.
Its name more commonly appears as Bamoth-Baal (Numbers 22:41; Joshua 13:17), a Moabite pagan high place where Balak took Balaam to curse Israel.
Here God protected the children of Israel and opposed the wicked Moabites.
“Bamoth” elsewhere often denotes illicit worship sites strongly condemned in the Old Testament.
