Meaning: “temple of Anat” or “house of answers”

This was a city in the mountainous district of Judah (Joshua 15:59).

It has been identified with the modern Beit-'Anun (aka Beit-Anun, Khirbat Beit-Anun, Beit 'Ainûn, Bayt 'Anun, and Beit Einun), about 3 miles northeast of Hebron. Another view suggests that it is the biblical site of Enam (Joshua 15:34), “a village about 2 kilometers from the renowned terebinth” that grew near Hebron.
